Real experiences from real travelers
The bus ride from Rio was a bit long (about 3 hours), but the moment we stepped onto the boat, it was worth it. The Blue Lagoon is exactly like the photos—crystal clear water with tons of fish. The crew was fun and the lunch at Japariz was delicious. Highly recommend!
The scenery is unbeatable. Angra is stunning. We took the schooner tour which had a great vibe with music, though it was quite full. If you prefer a quieter experience, maybe book a private speedboat. The guides were helpful and spoke good Spanish.
We booked the speedboat option to save time and see more beaches. It was fantastic! We visited Dentista beach which the big boats can't reach. The water visibility was incredible. Just remember to bring plenty of sunscreen.
Be prepared for a 12-hour day. The pickup was on time and the van was comfortable with AC. The boat stops were about 40-50 minutes each, enough for a quick swim. The lunch was simple but tasty. A must-do if you love swimming.
I was worried about the logistics but everything went smoothly. The guide spoke English well. The Blue Lagoon snorkeling was the best part. I rented a mask on the boat for a small fee. Beautiful nature.
The destination is 5 stars, but the commute is tough. It's a lot of sitting on a bus. Once you are there, it is paradise. Just bring a book or headphones for the road. The boat crew made great caipirinhas!
Even as a Brazilian, I am amazed by Angra. Booking online was easier than negotiating at the pier. The buffet lunch included fresh fish and was very good. The water temperature in January was perfect.
For the price, you get transport, a full day boat tour, and lunch. It's a bargain. The boat had a slide which was fun. The only downside was the traffic getting back to Rio, but that's not the tour's fault.
Everything you need to know for your journey
The drive typically takes between 2.5 to 3.5 hours each way, depending on traffic conditions in Rio. Most vehicles make a comfort stop halfway.
Yes, a buffet lunch is typically included in the tour price. It is usually served at a restaurant on Japariz Beach or similar. Drinks and desserts are usually extra.
A schooner (Saveiro) is a large, traditional wooden boat that holds 100+ people, moves slower, and often has music and a festive atmosphere. A speedboat is smaller (10-15 people), much faster, and can reach more secluded beaches, but the ride is bumpier.
Masks and snorkels are usually available for rent on the boat (approx. R$20-30), but we recommend bringing your own for the best fit and hygiene.
Yes, children are welcome. However, it is a very long day (12+ hours) which might be tiring for toddlers. Life jackets for children are provided.
Tours operate in light rain as the water is still warm. If the Brazilian Navy closes the port due to unsafe wind or sea conditions, the tour will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund or rescheduling option.
Yes, schooners have restrooms on board. Speedboats generally do not, but you can use facilities at the lunch stop.
Yes, most schooners have a bar selling water, soda, beer, and caipirinhas. Bring cash (Reais) as signal for card machines can be weak at sea.
Yes, round-trip transportation is included from most hotels in Rio's South Zone (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon) and Center. You will confirm your specific pickup time after booking.
